The UAE’s Ministry of Human Resources & Emiratisation launched a package of measures to regulate employment relationships during the coronavirus crisis:
– Companies can allow employees to work remotely, give them paid or unpaid leave, as well as temporary or permanently reduce their salaries;
– If a company has a surplus of non-citizen workers, it should record their information in a virtual labor market system, so that they become available for hiring by other establishments. The company should commit to paying their housing allowance, not their salary, until they are hired by another employer;
– Companies wishing to recruit during the period of suspension of overseas hiring should post vacancies on the virtual job market and select the fit candidates from the database;
– Job seekers should register on the virtual job market.
